Paul Bloch is the cofounder and president of data storage company DDN.
Bloch was born in France and studied at one of its top engineering schools, Telecom Paris, before moving to the United States to attend Caltech.
Bloch met his future cofounder Alex Bouzari at Caltech. Their first business was an early digitizer software that transformed handwriting into text.
They broke into the computer storage business in 1998 with Mega Drive Systems, which they later rebranded as DDN in a pivot to focus on selling data storage for the supercomputers at research labs like NASA and the Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory.
DDN's tech now powers Nvidia's AI supercomputers.
The pair grew the Los Angeles, California-based business largely without external capital until selling a $300 million stake at a $5 billion valuation to Blackstone in 2025.
