Miao Hangen is the chairman of Eastern Shenghong, a Shenzhen-listed petrochemical and new material firm.
Its parent Shenghong Group, which also has interests in textile and new energy, was founded in 1992.
After failing China's notoriously difficult college entrance examination, the mogul went to work for a state-owned textile factory in the southern city of Suzhou.
Miao was soon promoted to the head of that factory, and he grew it bigger through a series of mergers and acquisitions. The billionaire later ventured on his own, before expanding into petrochemicals.
Shenghong broke ground on a $4.2 billion plant for energy storage systems in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu in 2023, slated to be completed in 2026.
