Poland-born Luke Nosek studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he met Max Levchin and cofounded an early online advertising company.
Nosek later teamed up with Levchin, Peter Thiel, and several other entrepreneurs to create online payments company PayPal in 1998.
Nosek, Thiel and Ken Howery cofounded Founders Fund in 2005. The venture capital giant has backed former PayPal colleagues like Elon Musk, with one of the earliest investments in SpaceX.
Nosek left Founders Fund in 2017 to create his own venture firm, Gigafund. The firm has since invested over $1 billion into SpaceX. It has also made smaller bets on other Musk-founded companies like Neuralink and the Boring Company.
Nosek personally owns 0.2% of SpaceX, which went public at a $1.8 trillion valuation in June.
