He worked for Korean Airlines in Europe and returned home in 1989 as a director with Hanjin Investment & Securities, as Meritz was then named.
Cho's father started out with a single truck and went on to build an empire based mostly on transportation.
He has outstripped his brothers in wealth and success; Meritz's value has multiplied since it broke away from the Hanjin Group in 2005.
